About Lesson
Michael Funk began as an associate editor at Science in 2017 and handles research papers broadly at the interface of chemistry and biology. Michael earned BS degrees in chemistry and biology from Vanderbilt University in 2008 and completed his PhD in biological chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2015. He was an HHMI and NIH funded postdoctoral associate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2015 to 2017. At Vanderbilt, Michael participated in undergraduate research in the labs of Profs. Eva Harth (2005), Brian Bachmann (2007-2008), and Tina Iverson (2005-2008) and won the Tellinghuisen Award for undergraduate research in 2008. Michael was raised in Knoxville and Nashville, TN and currently lives in Washington, DC.
